Online Observational Learning

Observational learning is a principle in the field of motor learning that increases acquisition of motor skills through observing the behaviours of others. Physical practice is the most efficient and valuable principle of skill learning. Physically practicing a skill or movement results in a neurophysiological change in the central nervous system, leading to skill acquisition. However, physical practice is not always available or accessible.

Research has shown that observation-based learning engages similar information processing mechanisms as physical practice. In the brain, mirror neurons are similarly activated when both observing and practicing motor movements. This means that observing motor skills can positively benefit learning and skill acquisition. In addition, volleyball-specific studies have shown that observing motor skills, followed by physically practicing the viewed skill, is beneficial to the learning process.

Online Learning Video Analysis: This online learning program will combine evidence-based motor learning principles with observational learning, to optimally affect learning. This developmental program will help increase volleyball knowledge and understanding by using online Observational Learning for athletes through both:

  • Detailed Analyzation

Using video analysis programs, NEWWAVE will assess and breakdown your videos

  • Individualized Assessment

After analyzation, an individual assessment of skills will be provided which includes your strengths or the motor skills and techniques you properly execute. As well as areas of development with key improvement techniques or strategies that will increase skill levels.
