About NEWWAVE

NEWWAVE Volleyball was founded by UBC Men’s Volleyball and Canadian Senior Women's National Team Assistant Coach Matt Krueger, as a platform to provide COACHES and ATHLETES the experience, knowledge and understanding of optimal development and learning strategies. Using evidence-based Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition concepts allows athletes of all ages to productively learn, improve, transfer and retain volleyball skills and knowledge.

Coaches will learn how to effectively provide training environments that optimize learning, development and skill acquisition for their athletes.

Athletes that train with NEWWAVE will be exposed to high-performance learning environments that prioritize skill acquisition and development.

NEWWAVE’s unique approach to volleyball coaching and training involves incorporating new methods of feedback and optimizing practice conditions. These current motor learning methods can be obtained and taught through individual or small group training, coach development clinics, workshops, seminars and camps.

Matt’s goal is to provide current skill acquisition concepts and deliver volleyball-specifc examples of how these findings can be applied to all ages.

Motor learning is the process of acquiring and retaining a skill or motor behaviour by which the learner, through practice and consolidation, refines and makes automatic the desired movement. Motor learning can effectively enhance and increase:

1. Skill Acquisition

2. Retention and Transfer of Skills

Evidence-based concepts to provide optimal learning environments for athletes

Using motor learning principles like feedback, autonomy, challenge point, contextual interference and specificity to increase skill acquisition

Incorporating different feedback sources to promote enhanced learning and understanding

Training perceptual cognitive skills such as reading, anticipation and decision-making
